We are proud to have worked with so many amazing artists as both students and coaches over the years. Each contributor's involvement is cited in the thumbnail of each video
"Society succeeds when we plant trees who'se shade we will never sit under."
As glovers develop their own style and refine their skillset, it is important to develop self-care for hands, arms and body.
Stretches, movements and drills can all be benficial.
Is any one stretch ESSENTIAL? No. As with most fitness, the key is to create SOME kind of regularity with the movement, keep your hands in shape and healthy.
"We grow at a rate relative to the patience we have with ourselves and our willingness to learn and unleran relentlessly."
The first step to becoming a glover is getting to know your hands! Here are some videos that will assist you in navigating the uncharted familiarity that is the journey of your hands capabilities.
"Journeys of a thousand miles must begin with a single step."
Concepts are foundations, ideas, circumstances, or limitations of movement that are designed to create moves and inspire new performance aspects.
This section's videos present an unique or easy to understand approach to the concept discussed.
"The rules of any art are intended to be broken, but only after being fully understood by the rulebreaker"
This is where you'll find any "one-two-three-four" tutorial videos and anything with a learn-via-doing and the hands on approach,. They should be explored once you have concepts and foundations in mind.
Very few artists add everything to their arsenal, but the best way to find one's style is to sample everything and figure out what tastes good.
"New experiences creates new neural pathways and forces your brain to adapt in new ways. Trying new things physically makes you smarter!"
The best way to improve as an artist is to find fun ways to repeat what is necessary to build reactionary memory. Our coach, JEST has put together a phenomenal series giving artists tols to create without feeling like work. At the end of the series is a link to book a class with Jest if you'd like to learn from him directly! .
If you are new to gloving, or haven't picked it up in years - Start with the combinations in these videos!
"100 hours over the course of a year puts you above 95% of practioners in a given discipline. That breaks out to 18 minutes a day"
Gloving does not need lights - but lights are part of what make it unique!
All of these videos illustrate moves or concepts that are possible because of modes or features within certain gloving lights of the past and today.
"We are a slave to technology only if we are unwilling to be a student of it first."
Traits are the intangible factors and characteristics of your light show that allow you to refine the expression of your moves and concepts.
Things like transitions, musicality, showmanship, pacing, storytelling, gridwork -all of which are taught as formulas to apply movements rather than as actual movements to practice.
"It is often what we do not say that speaks volumes and weighs tons"
Beyond basics and foundations, gloving enters a space of theory, mutual discovery, and combinations between different concepts and ideas.
Something to keep in mind - There is no WRONG WAY to give a light show - but there are ways that are MORE effective, or LESS effective at expressing your desired performance.
"An artist is successful when their audience can extrapolate the artist's intention from a finished piece unprovoked and create an emotional response"
